Choose Devices

In order for Home Domination^TM to be able to control anything in your home, you must have a device that can be plugged into your computer which can send and receive X10 codes through your household wiring, or you need to have a device that can control low voltage wiring directly.  You may also have temperature sensor devices.  When you first run the program, you will need to choose which of these devices you have.  This window makes it easy since all you have to do is check the boxes for the device or devices that you have.  You can also click the Device Setup if you want to configure these devices further.  

The CM11A is a common device that was sold with ActiveHome from X10 that is hooked to a serial port on the computer, and can send and receive codes to and from your house wiring.  This is used to send switching commands to switches and receive codes sent by motion sensors.  Other devices can send and be controlled by these codes as well.  Make sure the serial port is set appropriately.

The U401, U421, U421-SC3 and U451 USB Interface devices can be used to control low voltage wiring.  If you check this box, it will add a logical device for this.  Unless these devices are connected, the logical devices will be disabled.  They will automatically be enabled when the device is connected.  If you have not purchased the low voltage wiring add-on, you will not be able to directly control any devices using this device.  If you have not purchased the add-on feature for controlling low voltage wiring, you will be able to demo this feature for 30 days, after which you will not be able to directly control low voltage wiring devices. You will still be able to use this device to control 1-wire devices for which you have purchased add-on feature's, however.

The U401, U421, U421-SC3 and U451 USB Interface can be used to attach 1-wire devices (from Dallas Semiconductor).  Currently, there is support for the DS18S20 and DS18B20 temperature sensors.  If you check the DS18S20 / DS18B20 Temperature sensor box, a logical device will be added for a DS18S20 or DS18B20 device.  You will need to click Device Setup to configure which data pin of the U4x1 device it is connected to.  If you do not have the temperature sensor add-on, you will have be able to demo this feature for 30 days, after which it will no longer function.
